Göteborg has a long history with the Rolling Stones, starting back in 1965, when they played Mässhallen, located just a couple of hundred meters from where they will play this time, Ullevi. Our amusement park, Liseberg, got show number 2, in 1970.
Liseberg is one of the biggest amusement parks in Europe, with plenty of wild rides, and is located across the street from Mässhallen (Svenska Mässan) If you arrive by plane, and travel in to the city with the airport bus, you will see both, up close. Right behind Svenska Mässan, towards Ullevi, is the indoor arena, Scandinavium, wich hosted 2 shows on the same day in 1973. If you keep on going in the same direction, 2 minutes by foot,
you will come to our stadium, Nya Ullevi.

At Ullevi, they played 2 shows in 1982, wich was many a Vikings first live experience with
them. In 1985 Springsteen played there, and the stadium got such serious damage,
that concerts could not be held there for a couple of years, until it was properly repaired. So, when the Stones came back for 2 shows in 1990, they had to cross the river that divides Göteborg, and the place was an old shipyard, Eriksberg, on the island Hisingen.
1995 saw Stockholm getting a show, and the Stones returned to Ullevi for one show in 1998, and they also played indoors at the Globe Arena in Stockholm.
2003 saw the Stones return to Stockholm again for 3 gigs, the LICKS concept.
But last year, it was supposed to be Göteborgs turn again, but someone had a close encounter with the ground, and it was cancelled. So we cross our fingers, and hope for the best this time.

TRAVELING TO GÖTEBORG
There are basically 4 ways to get here, either by car, train, plane or ferry.
By car, I won´t give any advice, the citys center is very compact, so walking is a good idea once you get here. There are also a tram and bus system that will take you practically anywhere in and around Göteborg. Have a look at the travelplanner HERE if you decide on getting around with public transportation, wich is a good idea, really.

BY TRAIN
As I said, the citys center is very compact, and the centralstation is located in the city center, just about 350 meters from Ullevi. To find tickets and timetables, look HERE

BY PLANE
Göteborg has 2 international airports, the biggest is Landvetter Airport, located  circa 30 minutes north of the city. Traveling to and from the airport is easiest done by one of the airport buses, wich stops at several places in the city, before arriving at it´s end destination, the centralstation. Timetable is found HERE, but basically, during rushhours, a bus will depart for the city every 15 minutes.

The other, smaller international airport is Göteborg City Airport, located on the island of Hisingen, and this one is closest to the city. To get to and from here, look HERE. Traveling from this airport will take also 30 minutes, because no motorway passes here.

BY FERRY

If you are coming from south of Sweden, you can either cross the Öresundsbridge and travel by motorway to Göteborg. Another, more relaxing trip is by ferry from the danish city of Fredrikshavn. The trip takes about 3 hours, and the ferry terminal is located close to Göteborgs citycenter, by the river that divides the city, Göta Älv.

HOTELS

Göteborg has a lot of hotels in all ranges. But book early, since they tend to get fully booked before the touristseason starts, also during an event like a Stonesconcert, the pressure on the hotels are higher than normal. HERE is one page with a lot of links to different hotels.
 

THINGS TO DO AND SEE

There are plenty of things to do and explore in Gothenburg, ranging from Liseberg, the amusement park, to lots of historical places. A good way to see whats available is HERE.
My personal favorites is the south archipelago, wich can be reached by boat, at the same cost as all other public transportation here, 20 SEK. Bring your swimgear and sunoil. Time table HERE. The nightlife is extensive, and as Gothenburg is very compact, you´ll never have far to a pub, restaurant or nightclub. I recommend our famous Avenue, The Stones Vikings pre-party will probably be held here, or why not find a good place in the harbour? Anyway, you are guaranteed to find just the place for you.
